Many startups have customer service in-house to start with, especially when they only have to manage a few calls or inquiries throughout the day, which the manager or his secretary can handle by themselves. However, as the startup grows, the volume of the calls may be too much that they decide it too costly to hire a full in-house team just to answer each one.
