Im not new to trading, but I have very limited experience in programming.
My aim is to try and build an automated trading system to trade forex. I have been recommended open quant by a fellow trader.

Could somebody please direct me to some useful books to learn the programming languages required (C# and .NET) in order to use open quant effectively?

I don't have any books on C#, but a quick google on c# tutorial will give you several examples.

I'd mainly go for the help -> openquant strategy development guide however.

Check out some of the shorter strategies, read their comments, and try to understand what they do and how they do it. A lot of stuff is gonna be explained in that text, cause it's OQ specifics, but also a lot of stuff isn't, cause it's general .NET/C#/Programming knowledge, and that's when I think you should google/open your book.

Your learning style might be different, you do this anyway that suits you ofcourse, but my personal experience is that if your using a guide (on C#) that's not on the right subject (OpenQuant strategies), just related, a lot of stuff you learn isn't really relevant, and even though it might be great to know, currently it's only hindering you.

My 2 cents

I don't mind when people PM me to see if I have the time to help, but please post in the forum FIRST, and then grab my attention so others can benefit aswell.

I’m partial to the WROX series of programming books. They are huge red soft covers that every chain bookstore should have. Look for "Beginning Visual C# 2008". It runs $50 - $60 which is very reasonable.

Its only $30 on amazon, a bargain. ... 047019135X
